When considering musicals you can’t help but thing about Andrew Lloyd Webber. He has achieved the most success in musical theatre and runs one of the largest theater companies in London. He can be blamed for producing the longest running musical production ever and also the highest grossing ever. The Phantom of the Opera celebrated its 10,000th Broadway performance on 11 February 2012 that’s the first musical to ever to do so and it is still going strong today. His talents at producing musicals are legendary and long may they last.

Les Misérables is just another musical which has been running for over 20 decades. Over 60 million people around the globe have seen the stage musical over 40 countrys. If you’d like a great cry, then visit your theatre and watch it. It’s simple to see why it won a golden globe for best motion picture and it got 8 Oscar nominations and 9 Bafta nominations.

The background of musicals goes quite a way. I once seen the Amphitheatre near Taormina in Sicily and you can bet it saw its own fair share of musicals in its time. The Romans are thought to have reproduced the Greek theatres’ and done in enclosed wooden structures. They attached metal chips to the shows to enhance the sound of the dancing. Soy una taza am guessing these would be called the first tap shoes.

There is something just fantastic about musicals when they’re done well. As a kid the most recorded and watched films on TV for me were musicals. I even remember spending hours optimizing the skip Dorothy will down the yellow brick road! The more I think about it the more I realise that I was brought up on musicals.

But what is it about musicals which make them so popular even now? I believe that it’s only because they use song and dance to improve a story. However, I believe it requires a special sort of director and choreographer to make a musical function. Having seen plenty of productions of the exact same musical it seems the success is actually down to how well it’s produced. Two or three years ago I needed my mother to see “We will rock you” and it was simply wonderful. It actually provides you the feel good element.

I can’t wait for the next big musical to hit the stage. Maybe I need to arrange this, get a set of friends, prepare a dancing and have some songs ready. I bet it’d make all the shoppers stop and observe and give them the feel good factor that all the best musicals give you.
